On 25th February the Cathedral and Diocesan Facebook pages announced the sad news of the death of Canon Celia Matthews. Celia’s long life was given to ministry for people in this Diocese, both as a lay person and as a priest. She served as Diocesan Missioner, as an educator for clergy and lay readers, and as a spiritual guide to very many people. Celia was among the first women to be ordained to the priesthood in the Scottish Episcopal Church in 1995, and continued her ministry as part of the Cathedral’s ministry team. In 2021 Celia’s years of service were celebrated and marked when I was able to install her as an Honorary Canon of St Ninian’s Cathedral. The Cathedral congregation, and many many others, were delighted that day to show their love and appreciation of Celia.
Please give thanks and pray for Celia now in God’s loving hands. Celia’s funeral service will take place at the Cathedral on Tuesday 11 March at 12.00, and all are very welcome.
