The final day of visiting Diocesan projects was busy - Arunima Children’s Hospice and Suvabrota, its dedicated leader; the Oxford Mission with the Home for Older People, and the College of Nursing. Then to neighbouring Howrah and St James School (3,200 pupils) the TB Hospital and finally a delightful Christmas play by pupils of La Marinière Girls’ School.
Everywhere the students. pupils and staff welcomed me so warmly, and gave amazing performances of song and dance. India loves singing and dancing!

On the 4th day visiting the Diocese of Calcutta, I went to visit some of the educational outreach projects of the Diocese: a classroom where young children who live in very deprived conditions with their parents, under a flyove, are receiving basic education and care from dedicated teachers, while some of their mothers are learning sewing and embroidery skills outside. When they qualify they join the project workshop where embroidered textiles are made and sold. The vestments I wore on Sunday were made by them.
In the evening, a cultural evening of Indian song and dance with students and staff of some of the Diocesan secondary schools, great skill and talent shown by everyone.

Advent Sunday with the Diocese of Calcutta as chief guest at the Diocesan Festival, giving the sermon at the Liturgy (wearing some amazing vestments made by one of the Diocesan social projects), and visiting the stalls set up around the Cathedral by the churches and projects. There were over 5,000 there, and all of them were given dinner at the end of the day. Praying for God to bless Bishop Paritosh and the people of this Diocese. ... See MoreSee Less
