On the feast day of St Barnabas we pray that we may share his gifts of encouraging the faint-hearted and remembering the poor, so that we may proclaim God’s word to others and bring them to know God for themselves. These small black lambs are protected and encouraged by their mother at Gloagburn Farm, near Tibbermore.Lord God Almighty, who filled your holy apostle Barnabaswith faith and the Holy Spirit, and set him apart to proclaim your word to the nations:grant us, like him, the same gifts;that we may encourage the faint-hearted,remember the poor, and bring others to know you,the living God;for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you,in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end.Amen. ... On the feast day of St Columba we pray for the congregations of St Columba, Aberdour; St Columba, Crieff; and St Columba, Stanley. We give thanks for the ministry of St Columba, who travelled across the sea from Ireland to Scotland and founded Iona Abbey as a centre of mission. The river Tay in this photo of Perth Bridge is completely still at high tide.O God,who called your servant Columbafrom among the princes of Irelandto be a herald and evangelist of your kingdom:grant that your Church, remembering his faith and courage, may so proclaim the gospel, that people everywherewill come to know your Son as their Saviour, and serve him as their king;who lives and reigns with you,in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end.Amen. ...
