A note to tell you about our next concert, in just under two weeks time: “A star is born – The Making of Kitty Clive”. a musical biography of Britain’s first celebrity songster.
This will be something rather different from our usual fare. It will be a ‘musical re-enactment’ of the life and times of Kitty Clive, who lived from 1711 to 1785. It will be performed by Tunnell Trust winners Apollo’s Cabinet, and is the second of our harpsichord concerts this season. It will feature music by J. C. Pepusch, founder of the Academy of Vocal music, later re-named the Academy of Ancient Music, G.F.Handel, and Thomas Arn19
As well as the Tunnell Trust winners, Apollo’s Cabinet are also Winners of the Göttingen Händel Competition 2022 and Winners of the Maurizio Pratola Competition 2022.
“They were the outstanding ensemble of the season as they always manage to combine excellent and stylish playing with very original ways to make baroque music exciting and relevant to a non- specialist audience including children and young people.”
Deborah Roberts, Artistic Director Brighton Early Music Festival
As usual, the performance will start at 3 o’clock on Sunday 19th March at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Aberfoyle, and last an hour, followed by tea. Tickets are £15, £5 for students, and free for under 12s,
