Stainer – The Crucifixion

St Margaret’s Rosyth offer a warm welcome for a performance of Stainer’s The Crucifixion at 6.00pm on Palm Sunday, 10 April in Rosyth Methodist Church. This is an extended Passiontide meditation in which the story of Holy Week is told by soloists and choir. There are hymns for the congregation to sing. St Margaret’s choir will be augmented by keen singers from local churches and choirs, accompanied on the organ by Willie Campbell from Dunfermline Abbey, and directed by Walter Thomson, the Choir Leader from Mayfield Salisbury Parish Church, Edinburgh.     On the feast day of St Margaret of Scotland we pray especially for the congregations of St Margaret of Scotland, Leven; St Margaret of Scotland, Tayport; and St Margaret, Rosyth. May we all follow St Margaret's example of charity towards all God’s people.This panel, with its painting of a holy person calling us to be holy, is part of the 1600s painted ceiling in St Mary’s Chapel, Grandtully, which is in the care of Historic Scotland.Almighty God,who called your servant Margaret to an earthly thronethat she might advance your heavenly kingdom,and endued her with zeal for your Churchand charity towards your people:mercifully grant that we,who commemorate her example,may be fruitful in good worksand attain to the glorious company of your saints;through Jesus Christ, our Lord,who lives and reigns with youin the unity of the Holy Spirit,one God, world without end.Amen. ...     On the 26th Sunday after Pentecost we read and reflect on Jesus’ warnings of the difficult times ahead for his followers in Jerusalem.
