New Deacon Ordained

New Deacon for St Columba's, Stanley

On Sunday 29th September, Ross Stirling-Young was ordained deacon by Bishop Ian in St Ninian’s Cathedral, Perth. The focus of Ross’s future ministry will be the congregation of St Columba, Stanley, but he will also spend time in the cathedral alongside the ministry team there.
 
We uphold Ross in prayer that will support him in the ministry to which he has been called.

    Diocese of St. Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane
    About sixty people gathered in Perth Cathedral from across the diocese on Sunday afternoon for our Diocesan Net Zero Environment Gathering. Our aim was, within the context of worship, to reflect on our place in creation and our responsibilities. After a welcome from the Provost, Bishop Ian and the Diocesan Environment Group, we joined together in worship with prayer, Scripture readings and song. Everyone learned more and joined in discussions at two of our four stations around the building (Positive Finances, Rooted in Worship, Zero Waste, and Training and Education), after which we briefly reflected on our learnings and heard from Rev David Coleman, the Environmental Chaplain of Eco-Congregation Scotland.     On the eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost we are reminded that all have equal value in the Kingdom of God. Earlier this year the beach at Silver Sands, Aberdour, was popular with folk of all ages despite the cool weather.Jesus asked his disciples, "What were you arguing about on the way?" But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest.He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all."
