St William of Perth Award

St William of Perth Award

Saturday 23rd May is the Feast Day of St William of Perth. You can read about him here. I have found William to be an example and inspiration because he was an ordinary lay Christian, trying to live a good life, but also suffering because of his goodness. He represents for me so many people I have met in our congregations who serve quietly and faithfully, often in hidden ways, often with kindness, often with sacrifice.

It is to celebrate them that I have created the St William of Perth Award for the Diocese, which is being launched on St William’s day, 23rd May, and dedicated with prayer at St Ninian’s Cathedral, at Choral Evensong for St William on Sunday 24th May at 3.00pm.

Thank you for the nominations received. I hope to present the Award in person to the recipients when I am visiting their congregation, but if that is not possible I will ask the Rector or Priest-in-Charge to present it on my behalf.

Nominations can be made to me or my office at any time, one per congregation per year. A reminder invitation will go out every year on St William’s Day, 23rd May, and I hope the St William of Perth Award will be an ongoing celebration over the years of lay people in the life of our Diocese who give such hidden and humble service for the sake of others and for Christ.

With every blessing for St William’s Day, and for Pentecost,
+Ian St Andrews
