August Newsletter 2018
Mothers' Union Summer of Hope Event

Hello Friend,

In last month's newsletter I mentioned that Bev was preparing to take part in the incredible challenge of cycling 100 miles for RideLondon. I can confirm that she successfully completed the race and has raised over £1800 in the process  - an incredible achievement!

Good news! – Our NEW website is up and running, and going through some live testing before we make a big announcement later. Members in Britain & Ireland will also be pleased to know that the directory is now accessible through the website and records for most members are now live; the IT department are working flat out to make sure all records provided by Dioceses are cleaned and uploaded over the next few weeks.

With blessings,

Rachael Anderson -  Newsletter Editor

Our General Meeting this year will be taking place at Swansea, Wales on 18th September. We are delighted to be holding it in the prestigious venue of the Brangwyn Hall and very much look forward to welcoming our members. There are still tickets available so please do contact us if you would like to join us!

We will also be hosting a Welsh choral concert on the evening of the 18th - where you are welcome to come and listen to a number of fantastic choirs sing a beautiful selection of songs and hymns.

There is still time to take advantage of the lovely weather we have been experiencing whilst fundraising for Mothers' Union!  This summer we are encouraging members and supporters to  join in our Summer of Hope appeal by hosting a garden party, afternoon tea or any summer occasion you may enjoy!

Funds raised will help us reach out to even more vulnerable people and communities than before. Please do get involved and help make this summer, a Summer of Hope!

On 19 July 2018, the UK Government published its draft statutory guidance on Relationships Education and Relationships and Sex Education. This followed an earlier consultation on which Mothers’ Union consulted its members and submitted a response. Mothers’ Union is reviewing the guidance and will seek member input in due course. In the meantime, why not read the guidance yourself? If this is an area of policy you feel you have specific expertise or experience in, please contact policy@mothersunion.org.uk

The theme for 2019 is “Listen, observe, act – in step with God."

2019 sees the beginning of our new triennium and the coming together of our global conversations to give clarity for our way forward as a movement. So our theme resources have been created both to help engagement in the continuing global listening process and to build faith for the future as we move forward together in step with God. The resources will be available from the beginning of September.

Our bestselling Mothers' Union diary, year planner and A4 calendars are now in stock. We know how busy you all are, so why not get a head start and begin organising your 2019 with the new collection!

From 2019, we intend Families First to be even more of a resource for you in your membership, life and faith, as it becomes a weighty quarterly magazine just for Mothers’ Union Members and Friends at only £10 for the year. Existing subscribers can turn to the letter on the back of your address label (when you receive your September/October edition at the end of this month – pictured) to renew in time for the release of the BRAND NEW issue next spring. If you don’t subscribe already, please email us at familiesfirst@mothersunion.org and we’ll let you know how!
