Clergy are a key resource for the life and mission of the church.

As the Bishop is the leader of mission for the diocese, so clergy are the leaders of mission for the people to whom they minister. At this time of unprecedented challenge for clergy in ministry, we recognise the need to invest energy and resources in the support and development of our clergy. Our aim is to enable clergy to develop their understanding of their vocation in the broadest sense by providing opportunities for spiritual nurture, professional skills training and ministry reflection.

We see the main streams of clergy development as:

  1. Theological, spiritual and personal enrichment
  2. Professional skills development
  3. Vocational and professional support

We are currently creating a programme to help meet the needs of clergy within these streams. At every stage we consult our clergy to make sure that the programme is supportive and realistic; we are also learning from others engaged in this work in other dioceses and provinces through the sharing of good practice.
